A subset of personal information that is generally given a higher level of privacy protection, including health and genetic information, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious beliefs or affiliations, philosophical beliefs, membership of a professional or trade association or trade union, sexual preferences or practices, criminal record and some types of biometric information.

  • conduct our legal practice;
  • provide legal services;
  • manage our business operations; and
  • comply with legal obligations.

  • sensitive information, where necessary and with your consent; and
  • information included in a job application when you apply for a job with us.

  • answering queries and complaints; and
  • recruiting employees.

  • barristers, experts, advisers or other legal practitioners engaged to assist with your matter;
  • courts, tribunals and regulatory authorities where required;
  • service providers, for example IT, cloud storage (SharePoint) and practice management software providers (SILQ);
  • financial institutions for billing and payment processing;
  • government regulators (for example, under anti-money laundering laws); and
  • referees whose details are provided to us by job applicants.

We may also collect, disclose or use personal information if required or authorised by or under law.

In addition, we may also share personal information with contracted service providers including:

  • data storage and archive service providers;
  • printers; and
  • delivery and shipping providers.

7. Data Security

We prioritise the security of your data and take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, unlawful access, interference, loss or unauthorised disclosure, including:

  • practice management software which provides SOC 2 Type II compliance;
  • access controls and information barriers where required;
  • staff training; and
  • secure physical storage.

Despite these efforts, no online transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute protection against all risk.

8. Access

You may request access to the personal information that we hold about you. We will respond to such requests in accordance with the Privacy Act and the APPs, and may require verification of identification prior to actioning any request.

9. Correction

If you believe any personal information is incorrect, incomplete, out of date or misleading, you may request that we correct it.

We will take reasonable steps to correct the information to ensure it is accurate, up to date, complete and not misleading.

10. Complaints

If you have a complaint about how we have handled your personal information, please contact our Privacy Officer. We aim to investigate your complaint properly and respond with an outcome in a timely manner.

If your complaint cannot be resolved with us, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or the applicable state body.
